Today, on 17 May, we celebrate the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia & Biphobia. This day marks the worldwide celebration of sexual and gender diversities. It is a day to draw attention to the alarming situation faced by LGBTI persons who continue to be confronted with discrimination or acts of hate and violence because of their sexual orientation, gender identity or expression. A moment not only to stand still but also to take action, because we still have a long road to go in this regard. For this reason the Netherlands is committed to: abolishing the criminalization of homosexuality; fighting anti-LGBTI discrimination and promoting the social acceptance of LGBTI persons. Furthermore particular attention is needed for the position of transgender and intersex people in the LGBTI community.

On the second day of the Structured Dialogue, the 4th Expert Level Workshop continued with open and thorough discussions on ways and conditions to improve the level of transparency leading to trust, practical suggestions for reducing risks stemming from certain military activities, current mechanisms for prevention and management of military activities that could lead to incidents and best practices to reduce the possibility of incidents.We want to thank everyone for their contributions to both meetings, particularly our keynote speakers. Call for Proposals 2019 - now open!For many years the Permanent Representation of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the OSCE has contributed financially to OSCE(-related) projects through the delegated Human Rights Fund Programme. This programme is aimed at at deepening the strong ties between the Netherlands and the OSCE and to further promote the priorities of the Netherlands within the OSCE, mainly focusing on human rights and fundamental freedoms. Af de Hof vijver het Binnenhof Oranje te verlichten.Het oranje verlichten van stedelijke objecten is onderdeel van een internationale campagne. Dit jaar worden voor het eerst door heel Nederland meer dan dertig objecten verlicht. Tot 10 december, de Internationale Mensenrechtendag, zal het Binnenhof oranje gekleurd blijven.
De door de VN georganiseerde campagne roept op om geweld tegen vrouwen en meisjes te stoppen.Wereldwijd maakt namelijk een op de drie vrouwen een vorm van fysiek of seksueel geweld mee in haar leven. Nederland zet zich wereldwijd in op het verbeteren van de rechten voor vrouwen en meisjes. Zo investeert Nederland in onderwijs, versterken van maatschappelijk middenveld en mensenrechten.Vrouwen en meisjes kunnen zich namelijk alleen ontplooien wanneer zij niet blootgesteld worden aan (de dreiging van) geweld. Onderzoek toont aan dat vrouwen en meisjes die slachtoffer zijn geweest van geweld een groter risico lopen op depressie, abortus en HIV.
Mentorship's important role in career growth was the focus of a reception held by the U.S. Mission to the OSCE last week. Interns from a dozen OSCE Permanent Mi. Ssions met at the USOSCE Ambassador's residence in Vienna, Austria for a panel discussion and Q & A session on the topic.
USOSCE Acting Deputy Chief of Mission Greg Macris moderated the discussion which also included the OSCE Chief of Learning and Development Aaron Peacock, Second Secretary at the UK delegation Vincent Venturotti, and the EU First Counsellor Hadewych Hazeltet. Panelists discussed how good mentors can help challenge and guide professional development.
Following the discussion, interns had the opportunity to ask the panelists questions, hear their personal experiences, and delve further into the different paths of professional development.
